Pinned post: 9th April 2021 | As of next week, we are permitted
to resume driving lessons and I shall be returning. I have booked in some
lessons with pupils who have tests looming, but have not yet contacted
everyone else. Please feel free to contact me if I haven't already been
in touch and with luck we'll find a suitable time for all current pupils
who want one. |
Recent passes from some of my pupils, since 2018...see Facebook page for older posts :-) | |
25th September 2021 | I recently had
my car deliberately written-off by an uninsured driver, driving
a "combi-van" that had no MOT or road tax and which collided
with my nearside front wing, and headlight assembly, and putting a huge
gouge in the wing and denting the passenger door (so it cannot be easily
opened). Luckily, even though I was in the car and parked up, (waiting for a pupil), I suffered no injuries... I've now bought a replacement VW Polo to replace my previous car, that had served my learners and myself so well for the last 7 years. The new car has now had dual-controls fitted and is on the road, though I was able to obtain from the insurance company a loan car (with dual controls) for the interim, so few pupils were affected by this. (And yes, the police are investigating the incident...the "combi-van" was found abandoned shortly afterwards and has been impounded by the police). I'll upload a photo of the new car once there's a nice sunny day so I can show it off. :-) |
17th September 2021 | Hearty congratulations to
Grace for today's low-fault pass at Crewe DTC with examiner Ian. Just
in time for your departure to university! It's been a pleasure to teach
you and your lovely sister. I hope that you thoroughly enjoy higher education
and look forward to seeing you on the road :-) * *..again, after this afternoon's wave |
18th August 2021 | Huge congratulations to Fiona! Not only a first time pass at Crewe today with examiner Chris, but with only ONE driver fault :-) After three Covid cancellations, it finally happened! Thank you so much for your help last autumn with my Standards Check - you were (are!) a star. Now, about that husband of yours. |
4th August 2021 | Many congratulations to Niamh for the theory test pass |
8th July 2021 | Very well done to Katie for today's theory test pass |
22nd June 2021 | A massive "Well Done!" to Kerry for yesterday's practical test pass at Crewe! That will make life so much easier for you. I couldn't be happier for you and will look forward to seeing you on the road |
26th May 2021 | Hearty congratulations to Sophie for being the latest entrant into the First Time Pass Club! That equals the achievement of your brother Sam in 2018. Examiner Chris was very pleased with your efforts at Crewe today. Funnily enough, he passed Sam also. I'll look forward to seeing you on the road and hearing of your exploits at uni |
8th May 2021 | Congratulations to Georgie for the theory test pass |
8th March 2021 | Just in case anyone missed the edit to the last pinned post, driving tests will not now resume until the 22nd of April at the earliest. Therefore DO NOT take up the offer of a cancellation at any time before then!! Lessons are still scheduled to resume on the 12th, although that is provisional, not set in stone at this stage. |
1st March 2021 | EDIT! We now hear that although
lessons are still scheduled to resume on the 12th, tests will not happen
again until the 22nd. Presumably this is to give a chance to get a few
hours in before being examined. Therefore, and I cannot stress this enough,
if you have an offer of a test anywhere from the 12 to 21st of April inclusive,
DO NOT TAKE IT!! It's looking likely that tests will resume, along with driving lessons, on the 12 of April. It's not certain, because Boris's 4 tests have to be met, but that is what we believe will be happening. If you have a test booked before then, it is unfortunately going to be moved. You have the option of moving it yourself or waiting for the DVSA to contact you with a new date. I can think of a few expressions to describe the whole situation, but I will not put my thoughts in writing as I like to keep things polite. There are rumours that there will be a new examiner recruited at Crewe. If this is the case, there will be new test slots becoming available. Fingers crossed. On the plus side, I am now the happy recipient of a 5g tracking chip (allegedly) and so will feel safe enough to return to work without delay once we are allowed to teach again. In the meantime, please try to stay safe and stay sane, although the latter is probably overrated and not compulsory. |
9th January 2021 | Edit: The latest news we have
is that the Hokey Cokey DVSA have done a marvellous flip-flop. Driving
practice is now legal again in England, as long as it is only with a member
of your household or bubble and on an essential journey. No days out to Skegness, then. Deep joy! Have fun practising on those epic journeys to the corner shop and I look forward to catching up when this is all over :-) It has come to my attention that the DVSA is being rather difficult when it comes to learner drivers in England. As you all know, it's not permitted for us to teach, however it goes further than we thought. The wording unless its with someone from your household during an essential journey were removed from the guidance for learning to drive England. This appears to make it illegal for learners to practice at all during lockdown. I am in stunned disbelief about this, but wanted pupils to be aware. Stay well, stay safe and I hope to see you on the other side. |
30th December 2020 | As people are doubtless aware,
we are heading into Tier 4 tonight, which unfortunately means a DVSA ban
on driving lessons and tests. I shall be contacting pupils individually
who have lessons and/or tests booked in January. For those with tests
beyond January, my advice is to sit tight for now and resist any temptation
to bring them earlier. When there is certainty about the duration of the lockdown, I shall contact all pupils again regarding resumption of lessons. Let us hope that the latest news of the vaccine signals the beginning of the end of the sorry mess that we find ourselves in. Stay safe and keep warm. |
3rd December 2020 | Very well done to Kerry for today's theory test pass |
30th November 2020 | As we emerge from lockdown,
I anticipate returning to work this Friday, the 4th of December. I will
be contacting pupils individually over the next couple of days to organise
lessons in established time slots. If you haven't heard from me - or you want to confirm your next lesson ASAP - feel free to contact me. I look forward to seeing you all over the next week or so |
2nd November 2020 | We have heard from the DVSA
in the last few minutes. This is what they had to say: "Following the announcement on Saturday 31 October 2020 around further lockdown measures being introduced in England, we are working closely with the Government to agree the impact these will have on DVSA services. All driver and rider training and tests will be suspended in England from 5 November until 2 December 2020. We will be contacting affected test candidates soon. We'll keep you updated on the situation and provide further guidance when we're able too(sic)." It appears that we are being told not to conduct lessons during this time, consistent with the previous lockdown. What will happen to December tests is not clear at this stage. As before, I will update when more is known. |
1st November 2020 | As people are aware, we are
heading into another lockdown on Thursday. As of yet, the DVSA have not
informed us whether driving tests will go ahead during this time. We are also in the dark as to whether those scheduled for soon after lockdown ends will be affected. Until more is revealed, it is not possible to make promises about what lessons will be offered and when. In the unlikely event that tests are not postponed or cancelled, we should be allowed to carry on with tuition and I anticipate doing so. However, don't hold your breath. I plan to carry out lessons until the end of Wednesday as normal. I apologise that at this stage, I can't say what will happen beyond. Updates will follow. |
31st October 2020 | Many congratulations to Ollie for a first time pass of the theory test |
15th October 2020 | Very well done to Sophie for today's theory test pass |
15th September 2020 | Excellent work, Olaf! Very well done for a fantastic low fault pass at Crewe this morning with examiner Alex. I shall look forward to our motorway lesson next week |
6th August 2020 | Having been easing my way
back gradually, I am now able to cope with a normal timetable again. If
you wish to resume your lessons, please get in touch and we can sort something
out to suit. I shall be in touch with all pupils in due course, but there
is no need to wait if you wish to resume sooner rather than later. Please be aware that in order to keep everyone safe, I will be sanitising the car between lessons and kindly ask that pupils wash hands immediately prior to your booked time and please wear a mask - as shall I. Thanks. |
6th August 2020 | Huge congratulations to Jake for a well deserved pass this morning at Crewe with examiner Ian. It was only a few months later than it should have been because of that virus! Enjoy your freedom and I look forward to seeing you on the road |
15th July 2020 | Very well done to Ryan for a first time pass of the theory test today |
15th July 2020 | The latest news from the DVSA
is that they will start contacting pupils tomorrow regarding cancelled
tests. If your booked test was postponed because of the virus situation,
from tomorrow (16th) keep an eye on your inbox for an invitation to pick
a new time and date. Not everyone will receive the invitation immediately; pupils are being contacted a handful at a time to reduce the chance of crashing the website. When you have a new time and date sorted, we can discuss what you require in the way of tuition. I plan to resume lessons at the end of the month, starting from the week of the 27th, whether you have a test booked or not. I will take every precaution to sanitise my car between lessons. I ask each pupil please to wash hands immediately before the lesson begins and to wear a mask of some description - as will also be required on test. I shall be wearing one. If you (or I) have any signs of possible illness or have had close contact with anyone who has, or has tested positive for the coronavirus in the past 14 days, there is a very strong chance that your lesson will not go ahead, but no charge will be made. This is (of course) for everyone's safety. Take care, be well and I look forward to seeing folk in the next couple of weeks or so |
30th June 2020 | Good news and bad news about
the resumption of lessons. The good news is that we have heard from the
DVSA and, with certain precautions, we are now permitted to teach all
pupils again. The bad news is that, while it's technically allowed, my
lessons are still on hold for a little longer. This is because, as mentioned before, I am shielding on the orders of my GP and consultant due to being on powerful immunosuppressive medication. The latest advice from the NHS is that I should remain at home until the end of July. However, I am making the first baby steps to come out of hibernation and, looking at the overall situation, may resume some lessons before then. I shall be watching how other instructors cope and how serious the local infection rate is. Regarding tests, we have been told that everyone who had a test booked before the lockdown will be receiving a revised date in the near future. When you have one, please let me know and I will make sure that you are ready for test and have my car to go in should you wish. Stay well, stay safe and I hope to see you soon. |
18th June 2020 | For those who are looking
to resume lessons in the near future, this is the latest information that
we have. All approved driving instructors received a lengthy email from
the DVSA this week. In it, they reiterated that the only lessons that
we are permitted to carry out right now are those for key workers who
have a practical test booked. The TL:DR version of the rest is: "You can't resume normal lessons yet because social distancing etc. We will let you know when you can do. We do not know when we will let you know. It may be next month. It may not. We don't know either." All non-key worker tests up to the end of June have been cancelled, some with relatively short notice (< a week). I will update information as and when I have anything to tell. In the meantime, stay safe, keep well and I look forward to seeing you in the not-too-distant future |
23rd March 2020 | The coronavirus situation
continues to deteriorate. The DVSA have cancelled all practical driving
tests for the next three months. Considering that in addition to this,
I understand that I'm one of the 1.5 million people at greatest risk (immunosuppressant
drugs), I have taken the difficult decision to suspend lessons temporarily.
I do not wish to be a disease vector to my pupils seeing as we cannot
do a lesson 2m apart. If you are a key worker and are therefore able to take a test, then please contact me and we can arrange making sure that you are prepared and can use my car on the day should you wish. Watch this space for further updates. Pupils with lessons currently booked will be contacted individually. Be well and stay safe, |
19th March 2020 | The latest coronavirus news
from the DVSA is that from tomorrow, Friday 20th of March, all theory
tests are being cancelled for one month. Pupils are advised not to try
to rebook as it is uncertain when testing will resume. Those with theory
tests booked will receive and email informing them of the cancellation
and a refund. More information will be passed on as I get it. |
17th March 2020 | My current position regarding
the coronavirus outbreak: The DVSA is still conducting driving tests. While this is the case, I will continue with lessons. However, I respectfully request that all pupils wash their hands prior to each lesson and cancel (before I get there!) if they exhibit a new cough, high temperature or have close contact with anyone with either of these. In return, I will use sanitiser products on car surfaces between pupils. If you fall into any of the categories for which the government is recommending self isolation, the DVSA will move a driving test at short notice for no fee. I will provide updates on my position if things change. |
